The box features a rural scene with trees, ships and houses. The decorations are are very well-done, they are cast. The box has some minor dents and traces of previously done repair (see images). Otherwise it still looks spectacular. The box is gilted on the inside. It is hallmarked with a maker's mark J.M for John Mitchell who worked at Glasgow in the second quarter of 19th century. The other two hallmarks are a tree and a roaring lion which were used in Glasgow, Scotland to guarantee sterling silver purity. Length: 2 5/8 inches, width: 1 5/8 inches, height: 0.5 inches, weight: 2.1 oz.
