A magnificent and fun set of wine / bottle corks, a wonderful addition to any bar. The complete set consists of six corks all topped with a different animal modeled in silver plate. Present on one of the pieces is the BMF mark (Berndorf Krupp Art) for Arthur Krupp. These marks date the piece to c.1920 so very nearly a true antique fast approaching 100 years old.
The famous Berndorf Metalware Factory (in German Berndorfer Metallwaarenfabrik) was founded in 1843 in the small village of Berndorf, situated in the region Lower Austria (Niederösterreich) of the Austria-Hungarian Empire. Interestingly, the foundry location is connected with its marking system. Due to the assonance between the words Berndorf and Bärendorf (in German the last word means "bear village"), many of the factory marks contain a bear profile.
The six animals featured are a horse, a lion, a bear, a mountain goat, an elephant, and a fox. All sit neatly in their original stand.
Excellent condition with each cork measuring approximately 3" x 1 1/4"; the complete set spanning 4 1/2" in diameter x 7" tall.
