A handsome and most unusual desk tidy made from English silver plate dating to the late Victorian era, around 1890 / 1900.
Of course what makes this so special is the Equestrian / Jockey / Horse Racing theme. Hard to see on the photographs, the base is engraved with two large horseshoes surrounding the two coopered style pots or buckets, perfect for pens and pencils.
The jockey stands at the back with riding crops terminating in a horse hoof to the front. The large lidded box to the front is in the form of a large jockey cap.
It remains in excellent condition measuring 11 1/2" wide x 10" deep x 6 1/2" tall.
