A truly smart Italian shaped Art Deco games box made from highly figured Amboyna, one of the most expensive and highly sought-after burls in the world.
The box is mounted with a suite of playing cards made from 800 silver and signed by the Florence makers; the handle at the front used to open the box is also made from 800 silver. The silver is signed 23 / F1 which allows us to identify the maker and approximate date of the box. The maker is CORI ITALO F.lli ADOLFO & GINO of V. Petrarca 22, Florence, this mark dating to c.1935, a true Art Deco example.
The fitted interior has four packs of modern cards, a period score sheet and a variety of gaming chips.
A wonderful example in excellent condition measuring 12 1/2" x 8 3/4" x 2 1/4" tall.
