A beautiful late Victorian jewellery box and a grand, very usable size.
Made from one of my favourite timbers, Burr Ash with it's golden wavy figuring. The top is inset with a flush polished brass handle. The front has a mounted brass escutcheon which houses the working key. Once opened the lovely professionally restored interior is revealed, there is a ring bank that runs the width of the box to house around ten rings. The leatherette and velvet has been perfectly colour-matched to the original tufted silk lining inside the lid.
The original bevelled glass is retained to the front of the box and this front falls to allow the two fully fitted drawers to be accessed.
A large size measuring 14 1/2" x 9" x 8 3/4" tall to top of domed lid. Late Victorian in era, it dates to around 1890/1900. Excellent condition.
