A handsome and very stylish biscuit box dating to around 1890 by the top notch silversmith, John Grinsell & Sons of Sheffield.
Made from solid English Oak, the box is fitted with elegant and simple silver plated fittings including a shield shaped cartouche to the front. Once the lid is opened the original creamware / ceramic liner is intact with minor wear. The hinge is where the mark for the silversmith can be found (a cupid inside a shield).
A fabulous box in excellent condition; the base diameter measures 6 1/2"; the handles span 8 3/4" and it stands 6 1/2" tall.
