A top quality and magnificent centrepiece by the creme de la creme of English silver plate manufacturers, Elkington and Company.
I have a very similar one that looks quite stunning once filled with grapes and other fruits, I use the lower dish for chocolates when entertaining. This hefty piece is beautifully made and comes apart for storage or travel. The top dish is fashioned to to resemble a woven basket, the rim with a plethora of Grapes and Vines.
The naturalistic base is where the mark can be found for this highly prized silversmith. Being Elkington allows us to date it accurately, the letter S for the year 1857 so early Victorian in era.
An impressive piece, measuring 10 1/2" in diameter across the top dish and standing 15" tall. Excellent condition.
