A beautiful early Victorian playing card box created from exotic and expensive Rosewood beautifully inlaid with a plethora of exotic timbers. The front has a carved Mother of Pearl escutcheon which houses the working key.
The interior is a joy, the interior of the lid lined in a green silk and the box retaining the wonderful original paper lining. There are four packs of old (but later) cards included and a lidded compartment for the storage of dice etc.
The box dates to around 1840. Excellent condition measuring 9 3/4" x 6 1/2" x 2 1/4".
