A magnificent large wine jug, wonderful quality made from a hefty piece of crystal beautifully hand cut.
The naturalistic handle is just lovely, the collar and lid smothered with repousse or embossed Grapevine decoration. The wonderful figural spout in the form of the head of Bacchus is the finishing flourish to a highly decorative and useful piece.
Unmarked, the jug dates to the Victorian era, around 1880. An impressive size, with a base diameter measuring 5", standing 10 1/2" tall and spanning 9 1/4" from spout to handle.
