Better than a lot of examples of these early candlestick or "lighthouse" spring scales, this one is particularly decorative. The high points show the lovely design made from gleaming brass with a deep natural antique patina behind, the two creating a striking look.
The maker's mark is present for J.E. Ratcliffe famous for making this type of scale and dates to around 1850.
Excellent condition with a base diameter measuring 3 1/4" and standing 7 1/2" tall.
