A magnificent Victorian Electrotype Inkwell standing on three original bun feet. The three dimensional qualities of the three oval figural scenes are just beautiful; a scene with a pair of running Hares, the second with a Deer and a Stay and the other with Game Birds, which look to be Grouse; you can see this in the grandest of Scottish Highland Lodges.
My silversmith professionally and carefully polished this to retain the three metals, the copper, brass and silver plate; they all look exquisite together rather than re-plating the entire thing which would be the wrong thing to do.
The enormous cut crystal inkwell (a couple of minuscule fleabites, insignificant but mentioned for accuracy) sits securely in the stand and once the lid opens the small fitted glass ink chamber is revealed. A most impressive piece with a footprint measuring 10" in diameter and stands 7 1/2" tall to top of inkwell lid. Excellent condition and a show-stopper for the desk-top. Victorian in era, dating to around 1880.
