A really fabulous Victorian English biscuit box by the top-notch silversmith, Mappin Brothers dating to around 1890.
Larger than most examples and standing on three stunning pierced or reticulated feet.
The box has wonderful combination of late Victorian styles, from the gilded Egyptian revival finial to the Lion's face ring handles to the Arts an Crafts / Art Nouveau engraved decoration; a riot of design and very elegant.
The underside has a full mark for the Mappin Brothers. Superb condition, the integral tray having a diameter measuring 7 3/4", the lid diameter measuring 6" and standing 9" tall to top of finial .
