A rarely found stationery or writing box in exotic Coromandel timber mounted in top-notch engraved brass mounts with tiny screws having been used to fix them and the box is mounted to the back too, true signs of quality.
The sloped front is the star attraction with a huge Wedgwood plaque inset, measuring 3 1/2" in diameter.
Once opened, the box reveals a fitted interior with top notch engraved fittings (lock and hinges), the lock having a working key. The opening width of the compartments is 8 3/4". The box has the original engraving into the wood and dated August 1884.
There is a fine old hairline to the top of the box, stable and shown purely for accuracy. The foot print of the box measuring 10 5/8" x 5 3/4" x 7" tall at rear of box.
A real gem in excellent condition.
