A magnificent example of a Regency Penwork box dating to around 1820, one of the best I have had for some time.
Standing on it's original grand Lion's paw feet, the box is lucky enough to have some particularly fine work, very detailed and beautifully executed.
The top features and English Castle, the front looks more of a continental scene (such as Italy) with a walled town, and the back has a wonderful Marine scene.
All sides have roundels amongst the riot of decoration, one with a bird, one with a dog, one with a rabbit and various other classical vignettes.
The interior has been professionally refitted and re-lined, making it a very usable box with a clean, fresh interior.
Complete with a working key, the box remains in excellent condition with minor wear commensurate with age. 11" x 8 7/8" x 4".
