Quite the statement piece and pretty unique, this wonderful table cabinet is in fact a compendium with a sewing box, jewelry drawers and a lap desk.
Regency in era, dating to around 1820, the Walnut cabinet is inlaid with floral and foliate marquetry, beautifully executed and quite a work of art.
The lid opens to reveal the mirror fitted into the lid with the original gold embossed leather frame. The catch at the top releases the mirror to reveal a secret compartment for letters and photographs.
The top section is the sewing box, below are three drawers, the top two for jewellery and the bottom one is the writing slope / lap desk. The slope can be removed completely to put on one's lap or on a desk-top and used. The top section of the slope opens to reveal a compartment below for stationery or letters. I managed to find one inkwell that fits, so have included this.
A real beauty and in excellent condition. 12 1/4" x 9 1/2" x 14" tall.
