As charming as they come, this is a lovely example of a Pot Pourri box, a real novelty piece being in the form of a flower basket with a swing handle.
The basket itself if plain so not to detract from the highly decorative handle with raised decoration. The pierced or reticulated lid is exceptional with floral and foliate design surrounding a small conical knob in the centre.
There is a full English hallmark for Birmingham 1910 on the base with a corresponding part-mark on both the lid and handle, everything just as it should be. The makers initials HM are also present for the well renowned silversmith, Henry Matthews.
Lovely quality made from a good gauge of English sterling weighing 2.56 Troy Ounces or 79.4 Grams. The diameter across the rim measures 2 5/8" anc stands from base to top of handle 4".
