An absolute stunner! This Victorian correspondence box in bold and highly decorative Burl Ash wood.
This would have adorned the finest of desks to sort one's daily letters, ones that have been "Answered" and those that remain "Unanswered". Both words are engraved on a metal scroll and retain their original gilding..
The box is beautifully decorated with gilt metal straps, a mount atop the domed lid and generous escutcheon, the metal mounts are in turn mounted with shaped bone and gilded stars and mounted turquoise coloured glass stones.
The interior remains entirely untouched and original, lined in white moire paper and trimmed in blue silk. The lock (alas, no key) and hinges are all original.
Super quality and very stylish. The box remains in excellent condition with only a couple of minor cracks and tiny losses of the bone (really very insignificant but mentioned for accuracy). Measures 8" x 4 1/4" x 5" tall.
