For your consideration is this beautiful Canadian Art Glass hand blown Polar Bear sculpture by Chalet Canada. This piece just flows, no true transitions, no breaks, the blue and green hues of colored glass are suspend for eternity deep within the clear glass body of this large polar bear sculpture. The Chalet Canada Glass Company opened its doors in 1960 in Montreal. The company was opened by three gentlemen from Venice, Italy, intent on taking the art of Murano glass and creating it in Canada, as the business expanded, to keep up with the popular demand, the hired from Venice. Chalet Canada pieces weer known for fluid lines and heavy free-form style.

This MCM large polar bear measures 6 1/2" tall, 7" in length and 2 1/2" deep. Weighing in a 2 lbs and 15 ounces, it certainly represents their goal of "fluid lines and heavy free-form style". This piece is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips or damage. There are some scratches on the base commensurate of age. Signed on the base the word “Chalet” appears in a calligraphic lettering style to indicate the handmade quality of the company’s wares. The crossbar of the letter “t” is actually a glassmaker’s blow pipe with a gather (glob) of molten glass at one end. This, again, was meant to reinforce the idea of skilled handcraftsmanship." Please note the glass is crystal clear, the off white color in some photographs is due to the highly reflective surface of the glass.

This piece will certainly demand a audience wherever it it placed. This piece would make a lovely addition to a library, study of office window. You are certain to enjoy this amazing piece from the Mid-Century Modern Era of Yesteryear!
