This piece is one of those amazing finds, I just can't stop admiring it! Discovered at a Chicago North Shore Glass Collector's Estate sale, this piece is a once in a lifetime piece! The competition was fierce and I had over five other buyers offering to purchase this piece from me as I left the estate! Rebecca Stewart has been quoted as saying:"Molten glass, a liquid, is the medium which has enabled me to combine aspects of both watercolor and sculpture, as well as a third and endlessly intriguing element: the play of light." One of the keys to controlling the play of light and color in paperweights is to use a brilliant, optical crystal. This huge 5" across, 4" tall, 13" around and weighing 3 lbs and 7 ounces just starts to touch on how amazing this piece is! The dichroic glass design within looks like you are traveling in an ocean of space. There are literally "waves" of color from purples, blues, pinks, greens, oranges, golds and teals all in wave upon wave of color and layers. The base is cut at an angle and there is an angled "window" cut from the top of the crystal clear glass to enjoy a different view, other than just from the rounded sides. The base is fully signed Rebecca Stewart, dated '92-1996 and numbered LN5-39. I took over one hundred photographs and had a terrible time trying to pick just nine because they are all so amazing and different, it was extremely difficult to decide. Photographed in natural light and within a light tent, please note that there is no damage, only reflections seen in some of the photographs. Amazing and breathtaking is all I am able to say to best describe this incredible piece.
