This covered dish is attributed to Dobson & Co. Circa 1901. This is the highly sough after robed Santa Claus on Sleigh covered dish. The original gold painted supports and runners still retain most of the paint, as well as the rim of the sleigh. The detail is wonderful and Santa Claus is sitting with a robe wrapped over his legs and around his back. His beard is long and he has a fur hat upon his head. There is a small chip on the back of one of the runners and a small flake on the inside back of the lid, with some stress marks on the inside of the sleigh, this would be expected due to its age. This piece measures 5 1/2" in length and 4 1/2" tall. Santa is pictured on the cover of the book "Popular Milk Glass & Other Opaque Novelties" by Douglas Congdon-Martin. Inside reads: "Robed Santa on Sleigh, Dobson & Co. The design was patented May 21, 1901 by Harry T. Thomas (Design No. 34,527). He assigned his patent to John A. Dobson and Company of Baltimore, Maryland."
