Oil on canvas, 14" by 22", (17" by 25" as framed), signed in red at lower right near the edge of the frame "F. C. Bromley". This is a beautiful work straddling the Hudson River School and the Tonalism that marked the late 19th and earliest years of the 20th century. The artist died at a very early age, and as a result his works are not plentiful and he is somewhat neglected today. He spent most of his short life in the Midwest, having been born in Wisconsin and died in Ohio; he is most closely associated with Illinois. Bromley studied in Paris and exhibited at the Paris Salon. See askart for more information on the artist and images of his work.
