Oil on canvas laid on board, 14" by 18" and 2" wide frame, of a California low desert landscape with distant snowy peaks, signed at lower left and bearing old pencil notation on reverse "Eug. Frandzen". This is a classic desert plein air painting, in need of a professional cleaning. There's overall soiling that dulls the colors and subtleties of this painting. Frandzen was born in San Diego in the early year 1893. By the teens he was in Chicago at the Art Institute for training. According to the Hughes biography, after WW1 he was in New York in commercial art, and he found time while there to further his studies. He returned to California in 1937. This painting would likely date to the 1940's or 1950's. SEE HUNDREDS OF OTHER WORKS NOW IN MY RUBY LANE SHOP.
