A still life of grapes spilling out of a bowl in a traditional setting, 22" by 24" oil on canvas (29" by 31" as framed), signed at lower left by listed Illinois artist MARY HACKNEY WICKER (1868-1942). The artist was born outside of Chicago in Aurora, Illinois to a prominent family. At a young age she made her way to Chicago for classes at the Art Institute. Her oeuvre includes figures/nudes, genre, landscape, and still life. Works with Brittany and Mexico subject matter show that she did travel, likely in her later years. The artist died in Providence, Rhode Island. Condition: generally very good, stable, could use a cleaning. There is a scratch through the middle initial of the signature.
