An unusual painting that could be described as an allegory of all that is southwestern, oil on canvas, 24" by 20", 30" by 26" in interesting wood frame, signed at lower right "Martin", and with further ink notation on stretcher "Navajo 1981". The imagery is a southwestern Yei rug, woven baskets with their classic designs, and the profile of an elder, (not clear if male or female). The painting is a range of harmonious shades of brown, cream and tan.....colors of the Southwest. Condition is excellent, just a few very minor abrasions above the basket lip and adjacent, one could be almost called a pressure dimple. I have researched the artist name a bit but not extensively and so far have not been able to tie this definitively to a particular listed artist. However, clearly he/she was talented.
