An oil on canvas painting of two women and a man wearing traditional ponchos and hats, signed at upper left corner by the well-listed Peru artist JULIO CAMINO SANCHEZ (1914-2007). The work measures 16" by 12" (23" by 19" framed in wood). Sanchez was born in Trujillo, Peru and died in Lima. He showed early artistic talent while young, and between 1936 and 1942 attended the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Lima in order to further develop his natural talent. Sanchez' paintings, drawings and graphic works are well known within Peru. During the 1960's the artist did exhibit internationally. The Museum of Modern Art in New York has at least one of his pieces in the collection. This painting is clean, having traveled under glass, though I do note some vertical craquelure of the paint in the right hand portion of the composition. See the net for more on the artist and his legacy in Peru.
