A finely executed watercolor painting of stone coastal clifftop structures on a rugged coastline, the fishermen in a rowboat below handling their traps, which are attached by ropes and pulleys to the top of the cliff, the work signed at lower right and dated there 1875 by listed English artist JAMES ELLIOTT (active circa 1848-1896). The piece measures 13" by 20 1/4" (19" by 26" in modern day frame). Elliott painted in the west of England including Cornwall, but there does not appear to be a lot of biographical information on him. This watercolor is in amazing fresh condition, considering it is over 140 years old.
