Photographic print, 24" by 18" protected in a plastic poster box, issued by the Musee D'art Moderne in Paris for a 1963 exhibition of the works of noted French 20th century painter GEORGES MATHIEU, today considered a major artist, the large oils of whom regularly command over $100,000 at auctions in the US and Europe. This poster is somewhat condition compromised; there is some light buckling from moisture, with some light moisture related staining on the reverse (which does NOT show through); more obviously there is considerable wrinkling and handling creasing of the paper, most of it in a vertical band extending from the "U" of Mathieu down through the black field to above the word "Ville" at bottom. If you're looking for a decorative work and don't demand perfection, but like the artist's work, this might be for you. If you're a dealer looking for a perfect specimen, pass on this one. I think the price takes into account the condition issues. The artist's recent death should bring his work further into the spotlight. .
