A finely detailed oil on panel painting of flowers in a vessel set upon a plinth on a tabletop, painted in the late 20th century but based on the style of the old Dutch master painters of the 17th century, signed at lower left by artist RICARD SANGER. Note the painting of the tulips, in particular. The work measures 20" by 15 1/2" and 27 1/2" by 23" nicely framed. On the reverse is written "Ricard Sanger/Aus. School" (presumably, Austrian?) and then the artist's name again in pencil. Research online shows that a painting by the artist brought $2,500 at Christie's East auction in New York in 1995. The painting is covered in a dry, crackly, old varnish that should likely be removed as it dulls the surface, and in several places it creates some disturbances that draw the eye (see photos); whitish spots at upper left portion in photo are just the light dancing on the varnish surface, not losses. Frame has a few chips, easily repaired. The picture was found with an attached lamp and wire, available at no extra charge to the buyer. A fine addition to the traditional home setting. More photos upon request.
