A striking modern mixed media (appears to be white, black and orange water-based paints over a monotype on delicate Japan style paper?) abstract drawing in black and orange-yellow, likely circa 1970, signed faintly at lower right by listed artist DORIS ANNE WHITE (1924-1995). White was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She studied art at the Layton School of Art in Milwaukee and in Switzerland before acquiring a degree at the Art Institute of Chicago. For many years after turning full time to art in 1961, based out of studio in Jackson, Wisconsin, she produced modern works, a number of which are offered at auction. White was a member of the California Watercolor Society, National Academy of Design, and American Watercolor Society. This piece measures 12 3/4" by 13" inside the mat, and 16 1/2" by 16 1/2" framed. On the reverse backing in pencil is written "Impressions" and a reference number.
