An offset limited edition pencil signed print of St. Michael's Church in historic downtown Charleston, South Carolina, pencil signed by the artist, Charleston's long time fixture VIRGINIA FOUCHE BOLTON (1929-2004). The 13 1/2" by 20 3/4" print (22 1/2" by 29" framed) is numbered near the signature at bottom center 622/2000. Bolton (often more commonly known as Fouche) was well known in the Charleston area for her sensitive depictions of Charleston, the surrounding country, and other scenes of South Carolina. She was an accomplished watercolorist, the originals having in the past reached nearly $10,000 at regional auctions. A teacher of art and other subjects, she opened her own gallery in Charleston in 1976. This work bears on the backing an old round sticker from this gallery, so, we can surmise that this print post-dates that year. The colors may have chemically (or light-struck) changed over the years (slightly yellowish cast). Allow for reflections in the glass.
