A watercolor landscape of a barn and other outbuildings in a landscape, signed at lower right in pencil by well listed, Pennsylvania artist and illustrator RANULPH BYE (1916-2003). The watercolor measures 10 1/4" by 13 1/4" inside the present mat (16" by 19" in the present sky-blue metal frame). Bye was born in Princeton, New Jersey and received art training in Philadelphia and New York. Working in oil and watercolor, he became known for his landscapes of the Bucks County, Pennsylvania area in which he was rooted and knew so well, his family having been granted land by William Penn himself. Bye's works appear with some regularity at auction, and they are widely reproduced, prints of them found from coast to coast. This work is clean and fresh. The purple lilac mat and blue metal frame would best be replaced as they do not flatter the art.
