An ORIGINAL PAINTING on canvas, 20" by 38" (30" by 48" framed), the subject a panoramic view of a quaint coastal cliffside village complete with tidy white church and homes. Signed at lower right by noted native-California artist NICKY BOEHME, the work is not titled, but the scene depicted is the much-loved small town about 150 miles north of San Francisco, Mendocino, in the county by the same name (which is north of Sonoma County). Mendocino is renowned for its poetic peaceful setting, clean ocean air, and historical structures. The 1866 Masonic Hall in town is noted for its famous rooftop cupola statue cut from a redwood trunk, known as "Father Time and the Virgin" or "Time and the Maiden". For decades Mendocino's picturesque charm has attracted tourists and artists. As it was an attractive destination for circa 1860's New England transplants to California, many of the surviving 19th century houses from that period are in New England style complete with clapboard and gingerbread trim. This painting features a wealth of detail and it captures the gray light of the area, which is often bathed in a cool Pacific fog, especially in summer. The artist received technical art training at the Oakland Art Institute in California, and went on to be a well known art director for advertising agencies. Later she began to paint in a romantic style akin to Marty Bell or Thomas Kinkade. The style proved wildly popular, and commercial products featuring reproductions of her images of quaint villages and towns, cozy holiday windows and snug harbors are now to be seen as jigsaw puzzles, prints, and even blankets. Original art by the artist appears to be very rare. The painting, fresh out of a Santa Monica estate, is in excellent condition, ready to hang on the wall. The letters "ASMA" after the artist's name stand for American Society of Marine Artists, of which she is a member. The artist stamped the reverse side with copyright notification.
