Oil on canvas painting, 21 1/2" by 27" (30" by 36" in gold quality Jordan & Harberg frame), the subject a peaceful landscape in the Texas hills in high autumn, a lazy river in the foreground, signed at lower right by the noted Texas woman artist, DOLLIE S. NABINGER (1905-1988). Most likely this is a scene in the Hill Country west of Austin. Nabinger was born in Commerce, Texas and showed artistic promise at an early age. She studied at the Art Students League in New York, then back in San Antonio with Texas masters Jose Arpa, and Harry Anthony DeYoung, and, also, in 1955, at the Academie Julian in Paris. Today she is best known for her Texas landscapes, especially those with the state's signature bluebonnets, but some paintings from Colorado and other locales are known. This beautiful landscape of the Lone Star State is in generally good condition, with just light normal soiling, light craquelure, a tiny missing paint fleck and a minor abrasion at lower right above the signature area. The original Stowers Furniture tag with handwritten name of artist and the original $175 price remains, along withe the label of Boston framers Jordan & Harberg. Frame has evidence of minor wear. **See a similar work by the artist in my shop.**
