Oil on canvas painting titled at lower left "Morn. nr. Frinsbury Kent", signed at lower right "Alf. Bennett 87" (and titled again and signed again by the artist on the reverse canvas), 20" by 30" (27" by 36" as framed). The scene feature a filled hay barge at left with two figures aboard, two houses in the middle distance, and tall ships in the far distance. Frinsbury is in southeastern England, east south east of London, not far from the mouth of the River Thames. The artist appears to be one Alfred Bennett (active 1861-1916). A Bonhams auction house sticker on the frame shows this was offered there in 2011/2012, presumably when it was in better condition. Just in that short time the lovely painting has somehow come to be in its present poor condition, requiring a full reline to prevent loss of the flaking and cupping paint. There is a 2 1/2" tear at center right, and three losses are visible at bottom. Most of the flaking is in the sky especially at top left and right corners. Once restored the painting will be ready for another century or more of display. Due to the flaking and the overall very delicate condition I must reluctantly offer this as local pickup only; shipping would doubtless further damage it. Frame has a loss at upper right; the missing piece is retained in a small plastic bag.
