A clean example of the poster for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, pencil signed at lower right margin by the noted, avant-garde American artist, LYNDA BENGLIS (1941-). A number of artists were invited to create images for the series, and signed examples of these show up from time to time. This example (26" by 38" framed behind Plexi, making for easy shipping) is dedicated "For Harold Huttas". Benglis is a well-known Greek-American contemporary artist. Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, she took the New York art world by storm in the early 1970's with her brashness and confidence, notably a famous 1974 ad in Artforum she paid for herself, showing her totally nude in an erotic position. Benglis quickly came to know the likes of David Hockney, Andy Warhol, Donald Judd, Sol LeWitt, Eva Hesse and Barnett Newman. She became known for her revolutionary poured latex sculptures, many suggesting organic forms. Her work has been widely exhibited on both sides of the Atlantic at museums and major contemporary galleries. Benglis was a 1964 graduate of Newcomb College in New Orleans. See the net for much more information on her place in contemporary art world of the past 50 years. The piece is uncommonly fresh, the colors bright, after more than 30 years. There is a scratch on Plexi which shows as a line in some images, this is not on the art itself. Frame of wood shows just a little wear. Overall a very smart, stylish addition to your contemporary interior.
