A very accomplished impressionist landscape of a line of trees on a slope, houses in the distance, unsigned, 9" by 12" (16 1/2" by 18 1/2" in attractive carved, gilded framing). The painting was found in Southern California. While the work looks American, or even Californian, without a signature we are left wondering. The canvas was cut (tacking edges removed) and then was laid down on Masonite; it is even possible that this might be a fragment of a painting that was originally larger. All in all, this is still a very decorative, attractive package. There is a small chip in the frame at bottom center.
