Oil on canvas painting of a small sailing craft on the sea, a dinghy towed behind it and another sailing boat on the horizon, 18" by 14" (24" by 20 1/2" framed), signed at lower left by noted American listed artist HENDRICKS HALLETT (1847-1921). Hallett was known for his marine paintings and historical works, and was especially adept at watercolor. The artist studied in Antwerp and Paris and returned to Boston for further training. He was a member of the Boston Art Club and the Boston Society of Watercolor Painters. A painting of Boston Harbor hammered for $22,000 in 2001. This example is in generally good condition though it could benefit from a light freshening-up cleaning, and there is an old puncture at upper left sky that was amateurishly repaired at some point. A repair of this small fault would not present any unusual issue to a restorer.
