This is a color print after the work of California-based Neo-Romantic, surrealist painter ROBERT WATSON (1923-2004), measuring approximately 19" by 24" and 33" by 39" in 1980's style black and silver framing). The work is numbered 15/400 at lower left margin, and at lower right in the margin is a complete, initialed pencil drawing by Watson, adjacent to his full pencil signature. Watson, born near San Francisco, studied in New York and in Wisconsin with Frederic Taubes, before his first one-man exhibition at Gump's department store in San Francisco in 1948. Soon he was exhibiting around the country, in Europe, and even Brazil and Jerusalem. Celebrity collectors drew further attention to his strangely lonely and mystery-ridden work, and today the paintings sell with regularity at live auctions. This example with its cold blues, whites and grays is typical of the 1980's works. It is in excellent condition; the frame has a little wear. See a website dedicated to the artist and his very popular work, and, an original Watson oil painting in my shop.
