A striking, complex drawing suggestive of three dimensionality, in rich teal blue and black, violet and gold, with strategic cut-outs revealing the white backing, 25" by 38' in the plastic enclosure box. The work does not appear to be signed but a fading label on backing gives the title as "Turquesa" ("Turquoise in Spanish) and the artist as JUNE SOBEL (1950-). Sobel was born in Queens, New York and grew up on Long Island. Saturday classes at the Art Students League in New York led to her acquiring a degree in Studio Art at Skidmore College, and a masters degree in painting at Stanford University in California. Now based in the Los Angeles area, the artist is also a children's book author. This artwork is hard to describe so I will let the photos speak for themselves. Achieving the crumpled paper three dimensional feeling requires enormous skill. The painter Claudio Bravo also painted crumpled paper, to great effect. Art is in excellent condition, Lucite box has cracked off piece on top edge, which has been retained. It would not be visible were the piece to be exhibited on the wall, though, front does have some light scratches..
