A PAIR of pencil signed prints, one titled "Hearts and Flowers", the other "Summer Symphony", both pencil signed at lower right by noted highly collected American 20th century folk art artist JANE WOOSTER SCOTT (1920-). "Hearts and Flowers" is numbered 815/1375, and "Summer Symphony" is numbered in Roman Numerals "CCCLXXXVII/CD" (387/400). "Hearts and Flowers" has a certificate on the reverse side from Scott Arts Graphics, stating the edition size and the 1994 date of printing. Jane Wooster Scott grew up in eastern Pennsylvania and was exposed as a youngster to the vivid Americana atmosphere that remained in the region into the 1940's. She moved west to hopefully become a movie star but ended up remaining in Los Angeles, though she returned to the east for inspiration. Scott originally copied Grandma Moses' style but moved on to create original works as her skills developed. An Ankrum Gallery, Los Angeles exhibition of original works, along with those of comedian and artist friend Jonathan Winters, catapulted her to notoriety. Her original paintings have been reproduced so often that Guinness Book of World Records has declared her one of the most reproduced artists in America. Scott also spent time in later life in Sun Valley, Idaho (and, the balloon in the symphony work has "Sun Valley" and "Summer Symphony" emblazoned on the pennants streaming off the hot air balloon). Her imagery has been reproduced on calendars, greeting and Christmas cards, puzzles, plates and box lids. These prints are in excellent condition although "Hearts and Flowers" has slipped in its mat and will need to be re-positioned. The frames though similar in color are not identical. These were acquired at one time and place, likely having come from the same collection. The measurements as framed: 27" by 26 1/2" (Summer Symphony) and 28" by 32" (Hearts and Flowers).
