A watercolor painting of a quiet homestead on a cove, most likely in the Maryland or Virginia and Chesapeake Bay area, signed at lower left by the noted American watercolor artist EDWIN C. LAMASURE (1867-1916). The 11 1/4" by 19 1/2" work (16 1/2" by 24 1/2" framed) is very typical of Lamasure's art. Based out of a Washington, DC studio, he roamed the Mid-Atlantic countryside in search of subject matter for his brush. Most paintings feature country scenes but some marines are known, and he apparently went west for a brief time as western subject matter has appeared at auctions. Born in Philadelphia or French-Scotch heritage, Lamasure was self taught. He exhibited at the Veerhoff Gallery in Washington and at the Washington Watercolor Society. Many reproductions, including calendars, were made from his original art. Allow for reflections in a few images.
