A nicely worked painting of an old-style bungalow in a wooded setting, titled on reverse "The Red Bungalow, Chichester, NY", signed there by artist RALPH LANDSMAN (c. 1890-1960). The listed artist exhibited at the Salons of America and Society of Independent Artists, and judging from works that have appeared, he worked largely in the Rockport/Gloucester area of Cape Ann, as well as in Florida. Beyond this, there is little information on the net. This painting on board measures 12 1/4" by 16" (15" by 19 1/2" framed). There is a little damage, a little horizontal dig about an inch long, just above the roof line, which can be easily restored. At present it does kind of blend into the scene. Overall a pleasing vintage painting for home or office. Chichester is a small town in a hilly, wooded region on the Greene/Ulster County border, west of the famed artist colony of Woodstock, and west of the Hudson River. This would suggest that Landsman was associating with the art colony of Woodstock.
