A very striking modern composition, the imagery incorporating a female figure, a bird, a boat, and a snake, all complemented by patches of blue, red and yellow, signed at lower right by noted Uruguayan-born artist YAMANDU CANOSA (born 1954). The work in mixed media (gouache, and sparkle mixed throughout), measures 18 3/4" by 24 1/2" (25" by 31" in attractive black frame with gay mat). Canosa was born in Montevideo, Uruguay and studied there as a youth. By the tender age of 21 in 1975 he was already in Barcelona, Spain, where he has remained and matured artistically. Canosa has exhibited in Western Europe and the United States. His modernist works tend to feature seemingly unrelated objects that are incorporated by the artist into an appealing and mysterious composition. One can see in his work the legacy of his Uruguayan art heritage that goes back to the great Joaquin Torres Garcia. A number of works have been offered at auction in Spain. The previous owner acquired this painting in Spain. This elegant and handsome work is in excellent, clean condition and is ready for the wall.
