A meticulously-worked watercolor and gouache painting of the famous red dockside shed in the picturesque harbor at Rockport, Massachusetts, signed at lower right by well listed Russian-born California artist ALEXANDER IGNATIEV (1913-1995). On the reverse is affixed a paper strip with title "ROCKPORT FISHING SCENE". The work measures 11 1/2" by 15 1/4" (18 1/2" by 22 1/4" in silvery metal frame). Ignatiev escaped Russia for China during the revolution and was in San Francisco by 1923, where he studied with Gleb Ilyin. Later in Los Angeles he studied at Chouinard with Millard Sheets and Phil Paradise, graduating in 1937. For fifty years subsequent to that he worked for the Hollywood studios, including Warner Brothers, Disney, and Hanna-Barbera. This painting is in excellent condition. See an unusual oil portrait in my shop by the artist.
