Oil on canvasboard painting of a prominent, triangle-shaped peak in an arid landscape, signed at lower right "Annis W Kiber" and dated there 1937. The 9" by 12" work (10 1/2" by 13 1/2" framed) retains some backing paper, on which is written in pencil "_____ Peak between Alpine and Fort Davis". A little internet research reveals the missing part of the name is "Mitre", for Mitre Peak, a prominent mountain in the remote region. The artist is not listed but there is some online genealogical information for an Annis W Kiber in Texas giving birth date of 1897 and death date of 1988. She is buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery near San Antonio. The little painting is soiled and could be brightened up a lot with a simple cleaning. Vintage Texas art in general is very sought after.
