A nicely painted watercolor of Venice canal in late afternoon light, a lone gondola moving towards the viewer as an elegantly dressed lady walks at left. The work measures 12 1/2" by 6 1/4" (15 1/2" by 9"). The piece is signed at lower right by talented Italian artist NATALE GAVAGNIN (1851-1923). The colors are bright and fresh and the handling of light and shadow masterful. At the market peak circa 2005/2007 similar sized watercolors by this artist brought over $1,000 at auctions. The period frame is complementary. It shows slight signs of wear. One of a number of Venice 19th century watercolors in my shop.
