PAIR of unsigned watercolors from Japan, one featuring a seaside beacon or shrine, the other small boats along a coast, a volcano (possibly Mt. Fuji) in the distance. The works were found intact and identically framed, but in shipping one frame essentially broke apart and may not be serviceable at this point. One painting measures 4 1/4" by 11 1/2", the other slightly smaller at 3 3/4" by 10 3/4" (and that one 9 3/4" by 17 1/2" framed). The framing seems to have been done since they were in the U.S., as the backing shows a Civil War scene, and designs on the frame are American in origin.
