Vintage watercolor painting of a swampy pond with a stand of woods in the center distance, signed at lower right by listed Massachusetts artist HENDRICKS A. HALLETT (1847-1921). The scene is poetic and very calming. Hallett was born in Charlestown, Massachusetts and studied in Antwerp and Paris before returning for more training in Boston. He was a longtime member of the Boston Art Club and the Boston Society of Watercolor Painters. Today the artist is best known for his marine and historical-subject works. Most of his output was in watercolor. The work is in generally good condition with paper browning consistent with its great age, and there is a small brownish darker spot at top center on the edge. The piece measures 11 1/2" by 16" as framed.
