Etching on very thin paper, "Charles Baudelaire, de Face", 1865, later, likely posthumous impression, by the famous French artist EDOUARD MANET (1832-1883). The work measures 3 3/4" by 3 1/4" inside the plate mark, and the sheet measures 8 1/4" by 6 1/4". This is Guerin #38 in the catalogue raisonne, and probably the 4th (final) state. The paper being very thin and flimsy, would lead me to believe this would NOT be a much later restrike. There is a simple modern frame. Two tiny pinholes are in the margin area----actually I would call them less than true pinholes......simply tiny points in the thin paper through which light is visible. They are not noticeable at all unless the sheet is held up to light. Baudelaire (1821-1867) was a famous French poet.
