An original gallery poster from Old Town Circle Gallery, San Diego, for a September/October 1981 exhibition of the works of the artist, YAACOV AGAM (1928-). In typical style, the artist has HAND SIGNED the poster in color markers at lower right; he did it in that vibrating, repeating style for which he is known, each signature in a different color marker. Agam's works have sold at auction to about the $700,000 level, and frequently into six figures, making him an important Israeli artist. He was born in Israel and showed early artistic ability. Agam studied at the Bezalel academy in Jerusalem and then in Zurich, under Johannes Itten. His mature style draws from this teacher and also Max Bill. By 1951 he had moved to Paris, where he still lives. In the mid 1950's, Agam exhibited with the likes of Jesus Rafael Soto, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Pol Bury, Alexander Calder, and Jean Tinguely. The popularity of modern design has enhanced the demand for his Op Art and Kinetic Art works. Often he paints wood pieces which become part of a sculpture-painting hybrid. Some works are of very large scale and adorn public buildings around the world. This print is in excellent condition, other than some paper rippling/puckering at top and bottom. The work as framed measures 27 1/2" by 25". Allow for reflections in some images.
